"The Holy Spirit will teach you everything and remind you of all I told you." John 14:26

This past Saturday, May 12, half of our second graders received their First Holy Communion, and this Saturday, May 19 the remaining half of the second grade will receive their First Holy Communion. Please join me in keeping these beautiful children in our prayers, and let us continue to be examples of the faith by receiving communion with them as they move forward.

Today, our second graders will proudly crown the Virgin Mary in the May Crowning, which will take place at 1:00 pm in the church.

Special thanks goes out to Mrs. Cardinale and our students for going the extra mile at the STEM Symposium at Caldwell University on Tuesday, May 15. St. Therese being one of twelve STEM schools in the Diocese of Paterson presented exhibits of numerous STEM projects that have been done throughout the year by all of our students. Our eighth student presented 3-D printing and demonstrated their exhibit of "Dining With Dignity." Using the 3-D printer, our eighth grade students designed and created eating utensils for people who suffer from arthritis and other metacarpal disabilities allowing them to eat and dine with dignity.

Much thanks goes out to all of the volunteers, donors and HSA members who made the St. Therese Golf Outing a huge success on Tuesday, May 15 at Black Bear Country Club. We weathered the storm and everyone involved had a great day. Special thanks to Matt Wines, our HSA president for the countless hours he put into this worthy fundraising event

Our final General HSA Meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:00 pm. We hope that you can join us in this final informational meeting of the year.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It's a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child's reading habits. Our Book Fair will take place on May 22, 23 and 24 from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm in the gym, and at the HSA meeting on Tuesday, May 22 @ 7:00 pm. There is a new digital payment option for students called e-Wallet! Now you can send your child to shop cash-free! Visit our Book Fair Homepage to learn more and create an account @ http://www.scholastic.com/bf/sttheresesch8. You can also shop the online fair until May 30. We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.

In years past we have always done our New Parent Meeting on the date of our last HSA Meeting, but this year in order to allow for a longer question and answer period without rushing to the HSA meeting, we have decided to hold it on a separate night. That night will be Monday, June 11 at 7:00 pm in the Grade 6 classroom.

Finally, I ask everyone to pray for the children, the families, the bus driver and teachers from Paramus, NJ,  and the truck driver, who were involved in the tragic traffic accident that took place on Route 80 in Mt. Olive on Thursday, May 17. Our hearts and prayers are with them.

In one of my previous blogs I stated that IOWA test scores would be going home with the students' report cards. I apologize. After I wrote that in my blog I was instructed by the diocese not to send them home until the end of the year. Don't be alarmed. There is nothing wrong with the tests. I am just following orders. When I receive the go ahead to send them home, they will be sent home.

Tuesday, May 15 promises to be a very busy day for the St. Therese School. The 35th Annual St. Therese Golf Outing will be taking place at 1:00 pm at Black Bear Country Club in Franklin, NJ, and on the same day we will be participating in the Paterson Diocesan STEM Symposium at Caldwell College. The STEM Symposium will run from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. STEM Projects from the St. Therese School  will be showcased with the theme being "Dining With Dignity." Hope you can attend.

We are still looking for foursomes for the St. Therese Golf Outing. Please do your best to support this very worthy fundraiser. Remember you don't have to be a good golfer to play. Lots of fun, food and prizes will be available.

Tonight is our Mother/ Son Carnival. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Much thanks to Mrs. Amy Levy for organizing and providing the 'Dunk Tank," for Mr. Dunnigan to go swimming in.

Today's First Friday Mass was postponed until next Friday as the church is having a new organ installed.

Thursday, May 10 is Ascension Thursday. All students will be attending an 8:30 am mass.

Our annual Spring Band Concert is Friday, May 11 at 7:00 pm. Our students have been working extremely hard. This will be a concert you do not want to miss.

The Annual St. Therese School May Crowning has been postoned until May 18 at 1:00 pm.

The final General HSA Meeting will take place on Thursday, May 24 at 7:00 pm

Spring has arrived! Rejoice! This is the day the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad!

Congratulations to Mr. Mallinson and the students of St. Therese School, who particpated in the Catholic Band Association Competition, which was held at Villanova University last weekend. The Musical Adventures Showband received a Best Concert Band trophy for their performance of "The Tempest," "Over the Rainbow," and "Fallbrook March." The St. Therese School is the "Flagship School," for the Showband, making up the core of its performing members.

Report cards were distributed today for the end of the third marking period.

If you missed the HSA General Meeting a number of topics were discussed. Currently we need more volunteers to assist at lunch time. If you are available and you have an hour to spare we could use your help.

The revised Diocesan Bullying Policy was discussed. The policy will be placed in the student/parent handbooks over the summer.

Also discussed, were "Words Students Are Not Permitted to Say in School." Please refer to my letter that went home on February 28.

Improvements to our security plan, and the exploration of a security plan entitled, "ALICE. were also discussed." The acronym stands for ALERT, LOCKDOWN, INFORM, COUNTER, EVACUATE. Training for this plan will be mandatory for all administrators in the Fall of 2018.

This past weekend the 8th graders made sandwiches to feed the homeless at the Faith Kitchen in Dover. HSA members and myself distributed the food on Saturday during lunchtime. It was eye opening and gratifying experience. Much thanks to the Matt Wines, HSA president ,  memebers of the HSA and  the eighth grade for organizing and making the sandwiches.

Our amended calendar has been approved by the diocese. The last day of school will be June 20.

This weekend our eighth graders are running a Clothing Drive. Please see the Friday Folder for drop off times for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday April 28 the St. Therese Rosary Altar Society will be hosting a Spirit, Mind, and Body "Spa Day," from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Next Friday is our Mother/Son Carnival Day. Come see Mr. Dunnigan and others get dunked in the dunk tank. Promises to be fun for all.

On Friday, May 11, St. Therese School will perform their Annual Spring Concert beginning at 7:00 pm in the gymnasium.

Our May Crowning has been moved from May 4 to May 18 at 1:00 pm.

St. Therese students will be participating in a STEM Symposium at Caldwell College from 10:00 - 2:00 pm. Hope you can make the trip to witness the exciting STEM projects our kids have been working on all year.

Finally, don't forget about the Annual St. Therese Golf Outing set to take place at Black Bear Country Club on Tuesday, May 15 at 1:00 pm. There will be great, prizes, great food and most of all, great people.

Have Blessed Weekend,

Today is the last day of the marking period. The marking period was extended due the inordinate amount of snow days we had during the third marking period. Report cards will go home on Friday, April 27 along with a copy of the students' IOWA Standardized Test Scores.

Today is the last day to get your customized yearbook order in. It must be in by 11:59 pm. Non-custom orders have until next week. The 8th grade yearbook booster form is on the Friday Folder for your submission.

Our annual Spring Concert is only weeks away on Friday, May 11. That also means it is time for our Spring Concert Bake Sale. Please consider donating treats to sell. The profit goes directly to the children of St. Therese School. Please remember all items must be nut-free. See the Friday Folder for more information.

On another musical note, approximately fifteen of our students from St. Therese will be travelling to Villanova University on Saturday, April 21 to perform with the Musical Adventures Band. Mr. Mallinson has been working extremely hard to get our students to perform their very best. Our band studentas are very excited about the trip and I am sure they will perform at a very high level. We wish them good luck.

Mrs. Warga is running a Summer Music Camp. Please see the Friday Folder for more information.

The profits aren't in yet, but Fuddrucker's was mobbed for dinner on Thursday, April 19. It looked as if the whole school was there. We thank Fuddruckers for providing us with 15% of the profits for those St. Therese Families that ate there.

Please be reminded that there is a General HSA Meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 26 at 7:00 pm. We look forward to seeing our STS families there and we continue to thank you for supporting the St. Therese School  that has been blessed in so many ways.

Also, please be reminded that Spring Pictures will take place on Friday, April 27.

Finally, a huge thank you to Mr. Matt Wines, our HSA President, for organizing an event where our students, parents and members of the HSA will get an opportunity to assist the less fortunate who don't get 3 square meals a day. On Saturday morning we will drive down to Faith Kitchen in Dover NJ to feed lunch to the less fortunate and those who have fell on hard times. It will be a humbling experience for all, but at the same time there is no greater feeling one can get than helping our fellow brothers and sisters. This was Jesus's command, " Love your neighbor as yourself." St. Therese School will put that into practice on Saturday as we try our best to live by that command. Thank you Mr. Wines and HSA members for organizing. This is what Catholic education is about.
