"Anything you did for even the least of my people here, you also did for me." Mt 25:40

by Lisa Hirschfeld Email

Dear Parents,

The scripture passage above speaks volumes to the wonderful work being done in both the school and parish to help those less fortunate than us.  The Dunlow Library project, baby clothing collection by our Armada Blanca Club, the inspiration of third graders by Dunlow to make and sell Duck tape pens, bracelets, etc. is heart-warming.  During this season of sacrifice we are asked to do for "the least of my people" and it is evident here at St. Therese School.

This week brings many registrations for students in grades PK3 through 8th grade.  We thank God for the healthy and robust response to our "word of mouth" marketing.  So many times I've heard that families are drawn to our school because of someone they know whose children are attending or have attended our school.  Keep up the great work you are doing to promote STS!

Children will be receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation this week.  For the younger grades especially, please remind your children about the prayers said before and after receiving the sacrament.  Although it is certainly reinforced in school, it is imperative that your support and encouragement be present to your children.

A last reminder that our new fundraiser, Casino Night, will be held this Saturday at Junction 46.  If you can support this fundraiser that would be great!  It promises to be a great time.

Our next Family Night will take place in the school auditorium on Friday, March 15.  It will be a laser light show produced by Prismatic Entertainment.  Sounds fantastic!  We will need to have a definite head count by Friday, March 8 so please see the flyer on the Friday folder.

Enjoy your week!

Peace,

Mrs. Lisa Hirschfeld

Dear Parents,

What beautiful words to begin the season of Lent!  Hopefully, by Easter Sunday we, too, will find our way back to Jesus...

So many things are happening at our school these days:

* Ash Wednesday mass

* Burying the Alleluia

* Classes attending daily mass

* Stations of the cross being prayed ~ both in church and school

The next time you stop by please notice that all the hallway bulletin boards are each decorated as a station of the cross.  We are encouraging our students to be mindful each day of the journey and sacrifice made for them by our Lord and how we should walk that journey with Jesus this Lent.

Please be sure to take advantage of all of the church's offerings this Lenten season.  Check the bulletin for dates and times for the sacrament of Reconciliation, Stations of the Cross, Living Stations, etc.  Imagine how rich you will come away from this season if you experience these with your children!

On a separate note, please mark your calendars for two VERY SPECIAL EVENTS.

* Thursday, Feb. 21 - Home & School Association Meeting - Please make every effort to attend! NUT cards to be distributed. Guest speaker.

* Saturday, March 2 - Our first-ever CASINO NIGHT!  Get your tickets while they're available.  You won't want to miss this evening!!! Great prizes and raffles!!!!!

Don't forget that this Monday, Feb. 18 is President's Day and a holiday (day off) for our school.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Peace,

Mrs. Lisa Hirschfeld

"I was hungry, an you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink." Mt 25:35

by Lisa Hirschfeld Email

Dear Parents,

I feel that this week our school has been both drink and food for others: the St. Therese parish community, the Roxbury community and the diocesan community.  As Catholic Schools Week comes to a close today we are confident that STS has fostered a climate of sharing our gifts and talents with not only our own school families but with the wider community.  Through Mission Bingo, the Wax Museum, grandparent/parent appreciation, buddy reading, line dancing, open houses, and mass today we have reached showcased what we are all about at our school.  We have raised the bar of expectation for those who may be considering our school for next year's student education.  Many thanks to all of you who have helped to make this happen!

Due to the early dismissal this past Monday we will be rescheduling the luncheon with the priests and sisters and our vocation talk for sometime in the near future.  I will keep you posted as to the dates.

We are planning on distributing report cards next Monday, Feb. 4 and honors at morning prayers on Tuesday.

Please take note of the flyer for our February Family Night at Aspen Ice.  It is imperative that you get your reservation and check into school as soon as possible.  It should prove to be a fun night so make some time on Sat., Feb. 23 to join in the fun!

Enjoy the Super Bowl this weekend!!!

Peace,

Mrs. Lisa Hirschfeld

"God shoed how much He loved us by sending His only Son into the world." 1 John 4:9

Dear Parents,

We are approaching an exciting week for all who are in Catholic education ~ Catholic Schools Week.  It is a time for show-casing all that we are and do in a Catholic, Christian setting.  Please be sure to come and experience all that we are offering this coming week.  The agenda can be found on the home page of our website.

This Sunday is a great day for our 8th graders. They will receive their school rings and graduate pins at the 9:00AM mass.  Afterwards, they and their families will enjoy a breakfast in the school auditorium.

We are asking as many families as possible to attend this 9:00 mass with their children dressed in their school uniform.  The children have made thank you cards for our parishioners and we'd like them to hand them out after mass.  Your child should see his/her teacher prior to mass for a thank you card.

Open houses will take place this Sunday and Monday.  Encourage your family and friends to visit us! We always get our best students by your "word of mouth" marketing!

If you've been finding my initials and comments on the bottom of your child's tests, quizzes, etc. lately it's because I've been asking to see samples of their work.  I believe it is good practice for me to keep up to date on your child's progress and to let them know that I'm keeping abreast of what they are doing in class.  This is actually a practice begun many years ago by Sr. Mary and one that I'd like to continue.

It looks like the weather is taking a turn for the better next week but please keep reminding your children to dress appropriately for outside weather.  Heavier jackets, mittens and hats should be worn during this time of the year.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Peace,

Mrs. Lisa Hirschfeld

"He has filled them with skill" Exodus 35:35

Dear Parents,

How true a scripture passage!  We are so very blessed here at St. Therese School with a student, parent body and faculty that make our school work as a thoroughly viable Catholic educational institution.  May God keep blessing us!

Just a few things going forward....

* There is a half day this coming Monday, Jan. 21, which is being used as a make up day for the days taken for the hurricane. After school care is available.

* Letters of Intent are due by Monday, Jan. 21. We must know: yes, no or possibly. There are so many families waiting (some two years or more) to enroll their children in our school and I need to let them know. I need to be fair to them.

* Mid-Term exams will take place next week from Tuesday through Friday for grades 4 -8.

* The Catholic Schools Week agenda is available on the website along with all the activities that are associated with it.  Please get the forms in to us where/when you will participate by Monday.

* We are so very excited about our first Casino Night to be held on Saturday, March 2. The Casino Night Committee has been working hard since the fall to make this a wonderful, fun and fantastic night. It is a night to dress up, enjoy the gaming tables (run by a professional gaming company) and have many chance and "WOW" prizes to win!  You will NOT want to miss this fundraiser!!!  Please check out the Friday folder for all the information you'll need to purchase your tickets.  Spread the word! Get your friends and family to join you.  You WON'T be disappointed!!!

* Next week we will be registering our Pre-K and Kindergarten children.  If you know someone who is interested, especially in our Pre-K, please ask them to contact the office.

Thanks and enjoy the weekend!

Peace,

Mrs. Lisa Hirschfeld
